The weeping of Our Lady
By parish tradition, on a Friday forenoon in Aippasi, Tamil year 979, Savarimuthu Pillai came to pray before the statue of Our Lady of the Assumption above the altar, its niche doors open. As he prayed, the parish's own history records, a transparent cloud gathered about her, her eyes rose to heaven and filled with tears, and her folded hands opened and stretched outward. That history dates the Friday to 21 October; the feast is kept on the 23rd.

What this source establishes
The diocese gives 23 October as the date the weeping HAPPENED, not as a commemoration.
