150ஆம் ஆண்டு ஆலய நிறைவு விழா வாழ்த்துக்கள்

கிளைப்பங்காக உருவானது. வடக்கன்குளம் வட்டாரத்தில் கிறிஸ்தவம்தான் பெருகி வருவதைக் கண்ணியம், பணிகள், பொறுப்புகள் அதிகமாக இருந்ததை இருந்தைதை முன்னிட்டும், அதனைக் கவனிக்க தனி குரு நியமனம் செய்யப்பட்டார். 1698ஆம் ஆண்டு அரசுட்திரு. பொன்னையா அடிகள் பொறுப்பேற்று பணியாற்ற வந்தார். அவரே, வடவையின் முதல் பங்குத்தந்தை ஆவார். அவரைத் தொடர்ந்து 1709-ம் ஆண்டு பணியாற்றிய மறைதிரு ம்மிய போர்க்கீன் அடிகள் இவ்வூரை 1715-ல் மலரார் சேகையையைச் சேர்ந்த தெமன் மிஷ்னுடன் இணைத்தார்கள்.
அப்தெள்னவெளில் சுருபத்தின் முகம் ஒருவித மேகத்தால் மங்கி இருந்தது. பலனம் போன்ற கன்னங்களின் மேல் கண்ணீர் வடித்தோடியது. நெஞ்சில் குவித்துக் கொண்டிருந்த ஒரு நற்றிமலர் பள்ளியில் தெற்கு தோக்கி உள்ளது. அதனைக் காண கன்னியர் வந்து இறைப்பணி இங்கு வழங்குமாறு வடக்கன்குளம் மக்களுக்கு வரம் தந்தார்.
தாய் இல்லையென்று சொல்லாது வரமளித்தான். திரு. ஜெள்ளட்ரிக்கும் அவரது துணைவியாருக்கும் ஒராண்டுக்குள் ஓர் ஆண் குழந்தை கிடைக்கப்பெற்று அவளவு கடந்த மகிழ்ச்சியடைந்தனர். இந்தப் புதுமை செய்துள்ள இந்த ஜொக்கினியில் நம்பிக்கை வைத்து நடைபெற்றனர்.
இந்த நாட்களில் கேரள மாநில கொச்சி மறைமாவட்டத்தைச் சேர்ந்த குருமாரும் அணைக்கான திருவுவேற்றில் கொண்டாடப்படுகிறது. திருப்பயிலையும் தொடர்ந்து அமைவிலிமம் தந்தனர். இங்கு வந்து விசாரித்து வருகின்றனர். இந்த நாட்களில் வளர்ச்சியில் இங்கு பணியாற்றிய சாந்தீகுருமார் என்றும் சிறப்புமிக்க மக்கள் என்னும் நம்பிக்கை வைத்து மானத மறைமாவட்ட அன்னையை நம்பிக்கைகுடளும் மானது உருகி மன்றாடி கசள்ளுள்ளனர்.
இவ்வூ ர் கடவில் வருகிறோடே, அரசர் முகம் அதிகமாக இங்கு வாழ்வோடிப்பட்டு கிறிஸ்துவின் பிறப்பு பாரம்பரிய மரபு. இங்கு வாழும் மக்களும் கிறிஸ்துவின் பிறப்பு திருநாள் வந்தும், புத்தாண்டு பிறப்பு நேர்த்தனிக்கப்பட்டது. அதுவே வடக்கன்குளம் இறை திருநாளாக மாறியது.

"...it formed as a sub-mission/branch parish. Considering that Christianity was the faith that was steadily growing in the Vadakkankulam region — its dignity, its [ministerial] works and responsibilities being many — and to attend to it, a dedicated priest was appointed. In the year 1698, Rev. Fr. Ponnaiya took charge and came to serve. He was the first parish priest of Vadavai (Vadakkankulam). After him, the missionary priest Fr. ?Porkīn, who served from the year 1709, in 1715 joined this town to the Tamil (Madurai/Malabar) mission of the (region), uniting it with the German mission.
[Narrative of a miracle:] At that time a certain person's face was dimmed as if by a cloud; tears flowed down his cheeks like rain. There was a chapel (small church) facing south where a flower of virtue had been gathered in the heart. Virgins/maidens came to see it, and [Our Lady] granted a boon to the people of Vadakkankulam that divine service (ministry) should be offered here.
Saying 'she is not without a mother,' she granted the boon. Within one year Mr. ?Jen[d]rik (Hendrik) and his wife were blessed with a baby son, and they rejoiced beyond measure. Having placed their faith in this [shrine/Our Lady] who had performed this wonder, they continued [in devotion].
In these days, priests belonging to the Cochin diocese of Kerala State also came; the [festival] is celebrated as a divine offering to Our Lady. The pilgrim-instruction continued and they gave [support]. They come here and inquire/care for it. In these days the holy priests who served here in [its] growth, and the people known as distinguished, placing faith [in her], trusting the Mother of the diocese, melted and prayed earnestly.
[On Christmas custom:] As the years went by, the birth of Christ tradition increasingly came to be observed here. The people who live here, when the holy feast of Christ's birth (Christmas) came and the New Year began, made vows; and that itself became the divine feast of Vadakkankulam."
